What is sata and why wont xp recognise it?

i freshly tried to install xp into a computer and the sata was enabled. i have to disable it for xp to even recognise the drive.

What is sata and why wont xp recognise it?

Did you press F6 during the install process and load surrounded by the SATA drivers from a floppy?

----------

Update:

Unless you have a chipset that doesn't require that, such as an Nforce 4, etc., you must nouns the drivers in at installation (F6) because Windows XP doesn't enjoy built in SATA drivers.
Its serial ata. Its a faster type of nouns You probably have and settle hard drive within the computer since it sees it when you disable the s-ata. Just go it disabled
If you disabled sata and loaded xp, you did not have a sata drive surrounded by the first place. It is a newer, faster configuration, completely different connection.
SATA = Serial ATA
